Hey all,
With the help of our amazing contest sponsors at Rooftop Films we would like to invite you to join us this Friday at Rooftop Films‘ Summer Series where our grand prize winner Mark Kendall’s short film The Time Machine will be screened! Click here for more details!
Here’s our facebook invite: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=133762153318059&index=1
It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for! After much deliberation by our panel of all-star judges, we’ve reached a decision and are ready to share the good news.
Just to remind you, our winners were selected in two categories: Short Doc (under 15 min) and Feature Doc (15-60min). The first place prize goes to The Time Machine by Mark Kendall (School of Visual Arts) in the short doc category and Waiting for Women by Estephan Wagnes (National Film and TV School) in the feature doc category. The two runner-ups were Tightly Knit by Jenni Nelson, Stanford University (short doc) and Women of Steel by Priyanka Prunti, NYU, (feature doc). Congratulations to all!
These four films will be showcased on telegraph21 in September and directors win a grab bag of prizes from our contest sponsors!
Here’s a little background on our grand prize winners’ films:
Waiting for Women is a heart-warming documentary, about the remote Spanish village of ‘Riofrio´. Director Estephan Wagnes will receive a mentorship with award-winning directors Joe Berlinger, in New York or Jessica Sanders, in Los Angeles.
The Time Machine tells the story of Wilfredo Alvarez, a Honduran man who immigrated to America 11 years ago who works in a small watch shop in Grand Central Terminal. This inspirational story reminds us that time is a human invention and as winner of the short doc category, it will be screened at Rooftop Films at 8pm of Friday, July 2nd on the Old American Can Factory rooftop in Brooklyn.
We received entries from students across the US, UK and Spain. We’d like to thank all the contestants for their hard work and stay tuned for upcoming contests on telegraph21!
Many thanks to our sponsors: Brightcove, LeSportsac, Rooftop Films, IndieGoGo, Stunt and media partner: Flavorpill.
Name:
Nicholas Breslow
Where do you currently live?
New York City, NY
What is your hometown?
New York City, NY
What do you do?
3D Modeling/Texturing (& some freelance photography/illustration)
Who or what inspired you to become an artist/designer?
I started out working as a fashion designer/illustrator and branched out from there. The inspiration to work in clothing came from growing up in the suburbs and going to the mall. I know it sounds lame but there was nothing else to do. I started forming my own ideas about how the clothing should look and decided to take some drawing/sewing classes. I recently transitioned into 3D modeling with a focus on character development and clothing simulation. I have always loved video games and have used computers heavily in my design work so the transition has been pretty natural and I am really enjoying this new direction.
What have you designed that you’re most proud of?
I am never really proud of anything I design. I am hyper critical and manage to find faults in anything I make. After torturing myself for a while I am finally able to bring my creations to completion, but I never really feel happy about it. I am sort of a perfectionist.
Your blog post about The Horse Boy was really thoughtful. Is there something about the story that you connect to personally?
My son is 14 months old and he is the most important thing in my life. He is always on my mind and I constantly think about his well being. I guess I just felt for the Horse Boy’s parents because I now know what it is like to be a parent. All you want for your child is a healthy, happy life.
Have you seen The Horse Boy? If yes, what’s your favorite part of it?
I haven’t seen it but would like to. The trailer looked interesting.. Where is it playing?!
