In the context of José Saramago’s week, Arte Institute is organizing a special night of Portuguese and Spanish short films on October 27th, 10pm at Anthology Film Archives.

Telegraph21 is curating the Spanish film selection.

The evening begins with an exclusive Q&A with award-winning documentary director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes of “José e Pilar” at the Rooster Gallery (190 Orchard St.), 8.30 pm.

After the session, a Miguel Gonçalves Mendes’ short film and a selection of other shorts from Portugal and Spain will be shown. The Director will be present.  Buy tickets here.

As part of our ongoing series Window to Spain co-produced with Pragda, we present: La Terra Habitada (The Land Inhabited) by Anna Sanmartí (71 min).
This stunning documentary captures the essence of traveling and is an investigation of a remote area in Mongolia and several of its inhabitants.

Window to Spain is a free 6-month ‘summer cinema’ experience at the Big Screen Plaza in Chelsea, New York. Bringing a diverse selection of the best in Spanish contemporary art and film, Window to Spain turns this 30 ft by 16 ft HD LED screen into a direct flight to Spain.

The screenings are preceded by a very special presentation by popular Spanish TV showman and comedian Andreu Buenafuente, “Showman in Motion”, from the successful late night show “Buenafuente”, in collaboration with his production company El Terrat.

Window to Spain is co-presented by Telegraph21 and Pragda. It is being shown in partnership with Big Screen Plaza and with the support of Spain’s Ministry of Culture and the Consulate of Spain New York. We would like to give special thanks to El Terrat, ARTransforma, Bar Basque, Region 0, King Juan Carlos I Center, Freak Agency, Imagina, Eddie Saeta, and Aquipo.

We pleased to announce an evening dedicated to films by emerging filmmaker Kimi Takesue at the Big Screen Plaza on Tuesday, August 9th from 5pm – 7pm.

The evening will start with the Audience Award winning film from the second season of the FUTURESTATES series, That Which Once Was (19:50min) by Kimi Takesue. This is being shown in collaboration with Independent Television Services (ITVS).

Following this short we will host a preview screening of Takeue’s latest film, Where Are You Taking Me?  (71min.). This is being shown thanks to Icarus Films.

The Big Screen Plaza is located on Sixth Avenue and 29th Street (behind the Eventi Hotel). Beer and Food are available in the plaza. ENJOY!
